Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed the new manager of Manchester United. Espn reports that the Norwegian has agreed to a three year contract. This is great news for United fans, because as caretaker manager he has done a remarkable job in turning around the club’s fortunes. A few months ago when there was talk about Mauricio Pochettino as a candidate for the position I was enthusiastic about the Argentine coach obtaining the job also.

However I believe Ole was the best suited for the job anyway because he was a fantastic servant and player for United. He will always be remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 1999 European Cup final at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. Also don’t forget a host of many winning goals that he scored in the league and other cup competitions.

The Ex-Norwegian striker is a legend at Old Trafford, and has also contributed as a reserves coach at United. Ole achieved success early in his coaching career when he won the Lancashire Senior Cup in 2007-08 season by defeating the Liverpool reserves 2-1. He also captured the Manchester Senior Cup trophy on May 10, 2010 against Bolton Wanderers winning 1-0 at the Reebok stadium.

Solskjaer has won the Premier League Reserve and the Premier Reserve League North titles in 2009-10 season. In his native Norway he won the Tippeligaen league in 2011 and 2012, which is the top league in the country. Ole also won the Norwegian football Cup in 2013. I love the fact that he knows the club inside out and knows what is required of him to be successful at such a huge club.

For me Ole was the best man for the job. On the flip side Mauricio Pochettino for all of his time that he has coached in England’s and Spain’s top leagues he hasn’t won anything. So even though people in the media and everyone saying that he’s a brilliant coach and would be a better long term choice, Solskjaer was always going to get the edge because he won titles and he achieved that a young age. I hope that he’ll be at the club for many many years to come.

Do you think the club made the right choice?

Manchester United evening news

Ole has done a fantastic job since his arrival from Molde in December of 2018. He hasn’t done much wrong and has an impressive record for a caretaker manager. His loses to Wolves and Arsenal had put a damper on his winning streak and people started to ask questions about whether he should get the job permanently. I believe that he’s good enough to get the job, but I may be wrong and only time will tell.

Right now its a two horse race between him and Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine is an excellent coach and has improved Tottenham Hotspur to where they are now contenders for the Premier League title. In the last two or three seasons you can’t leave them out of the conversation because they have finished in second or third place. He is no doubt talented and is capable of winning titles in England and everywhere else in the world.

Is Pochettino the better choice for United?

All his squad needs is an addition of two stars that can get them over line. Because whenever they play against their rivals like Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea they’re not able to beat them on a regular basis. Pochettino is well respected in England and in the rest of Europe.

Ole is a young manager that doesn’t have the kind of top-level experience in one of the 5 best leagues in Europe. Where as Pochettino has managed in Spain with Espanyol, Southampton in England, and presently with Tottenham. All will be revealed after the end of the season in May when one of these coaches is chosen to be United’s next manager.
