In the Premier League, Manchester United won 2-0 at Selhurst Park against a Crystal Palace side on Thursday that we needed to beat. Goals courtesy of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford gave us a valuable three points.
In the early stages of the match both teams tried to get into a rhythm in order to establish some control. Wilfried Zaha was upset about not being awarded a penalty following a challenge by Victor Lindelof. After a check by VAR it concluded that it wasn’t a penalty.
But United would take the opportunity to open the scoring on the other end when Bruno Fernandes passed to Rashford in the box and he feinted to shoot before turning and slotting the ball past keeper Vicente Guaita. It was the striker’s 22nd goal of the season.
The home side thought they grabbed an equalizer when in the 55th minute, striker Jordan Ayew ran into the box and collected a pass from Wilfried Zaha and slid the ball in at the back post. But unfortunately VAR ruled it was marginally offside.
Palace continued to pursue the equalizer, left themselves open to counter-attacks when Bruno Fernandes almost made them pay when he teed up Rashford. The Portuguese’s shot cannoned off the post after being left wide open by Palace’s defense.
Then it was United’s turn when in the 78th minute, Martial put the game beyond Crystal Palace when the Frenchman showed his strength to muscle past a defender. He scored with a low bottom right-corner shot that made it 2-0 to United and also gave Martial his 22nd goal of the season to tie his colleague Rashford.
