Manchester United could only manage a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Monday in their Premier League game. The Red Devils missed an opportunity to get a firm grip on 3rd place. But after Anthony Martial gave United a 2-1 lead Michael Obafemi scored in the 6th minute of injury time to deny Manchester United all three points.
The Saints struck first when Stuart Armstrong scored in the 12th minute to break the deadlock and give the Saints the lead. Paul Pogba was robbed of the ball by Danny Ings just outside of the box and a cross by Nathan Redmond found Stuart Armstrong at the back post to put the ball past David De Gea.
However it was Marcus Rashford getting on the scoresheet with a well-taken low shot into the left-bottom hand corner of the net after Martial fought off two Saints defenders before Rashford rifled the ball into the back of the net.
Then three minutes later United grabbed the lead when Fernandes passed to the Frenchman who cut inside to slam the ball home. But, unfortunately Michael Obafemi turned out to be the spoiler when he got on the end of a corner to score at the back post to earn Southampton a hard-fought draw and in turn hurt United’s chances of finishing in the top four.
