Manchester United defeated a Bournemouth side 5-2 today in the Premier League that looked like they’re on the way down to the Championship. In a entertaining goalfest that featured some wonderful goals by Mason Greenwood (2), Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial (2) and Bruno Fernandes ensured that United continued their undefeated streak.
The visitors struck first through Junior Stanislas who gave Bournemouth the lead with a low drive past David De Gea at the near post. However Greenwood equalized just before the half-an-hour mark with a thumping drive. Then Rashford slotted home a penalty at the 34th minute mark. After that Martial got his 20th of the season with a superb finish to end the first-half.
In the second half Josh King’s penalty made the contest more interesting in the 49th minute to make it 3-2. But it was Greenwood who replied with a stunning right-footed shot. United were not done yet as Bruno Fernandes added a 5th goal for good measure with an extraordinary free-kick that keeper Aaron Ramsdale couldn’t keep out.
United were at their rampant best today again and this is a team that is hungry to prove that they can compete with Liverpool and Manchester City in the league. They are brimming with confidence and has that attacking flair back that they initially had under Solskjaer under his reign in the first two-and-a-half months last season. Long may it continue.
