Manchester United outlasted a spirited Norwich City team 2-1 in extra time at Carrow Road on Saturday in their FA Cup quarter-final game. Thanks to goals by Odion Ighalo (51′) and Harry Maguire (118′) the Red Devils moved on to the semi-finals.
Odion Ighalo put United into the lead in the first-half when he neatly turned and guided the ball with his right-foot into the net past keeper Tim Krul. But in the 75th minute, Todd Cantwell would equalize for Norwich City after a wonderful right-footed shot from outside the box that landed in right-bottom corner of the net.
Solskjaer brought on Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic to try to engineer a winner and avoid extra-time. But United got a big break when Norwich defender Timm Klose was sent off for pulling down Ighalo on the edge of the box in the 89th minute.
United applied pressure to the homeside with many shots on target that keeper Tim Krul was equal to. Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire all have their attempts saved by the Dutchman.
But it wasn’t until two minutes before the end of the extra-time period that the deciding goal came. Harry Maguire slid into the six-yard box as the Norwich defense failed to clear the ball, and he poked home the winner past Krul that ensured that Manchester United qualified for the semi-finals of the FA Cup. With this win our unbeaten win streak in all competitions is now at 14 matches and this will be the club’s 30th appearance in the FA Cup for United.
