According to ESPN, Manchester United wants to make a renewed bid for to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer if the Italian club is ready to listen to offers for him.

The Netherlands international had rejected interest from United, Barcelona and Paris St. Germain last summer before completing a €75 million transfer from Ajax to Juventus. The Dutch star signed a 5-year deal with Juventus, but has been in and out of the team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in recruiting a centre-back this summer.

De Ligt earns £210,000 a week at Juventus and fits into Solskjaer’s profile when you look at his age, versatility and character. Although the Italian club is unlikely to let him leave after just one year at the club.

I don’t see this deal happening because de Ligt has only been there for a year and he has a five year contract that he has to fulfill. He doesn’t have any intentions to leave as far I know and I believe that he’ll stay and United will find another centre-back.

Even though he played 17 in 26 of his team’s games before the league was shutdown because of the coronavirus, this doesn’t show to me that it’s a frustrating season for him. I just believe that Maurizio Sarri left him out of the squad because of tactical decisions based on the type of system of play or the opposition that Juventus was facing.

He had played in more than half of Juventus’s games so I don’t see any discontent for any player getting that kind of playing time. I don’t see how he can be unhappy or frustrated in his first season at the club. I believe that he’ll stay at Juventus.

What do you think? Can we sign de ligt?
