ESPN.com reports that Nemanja Matic has obtained a contract extension that will keep him at the club for another year. Manchester United triggered an option in the Serbian’s contract that will keep him at United for an additional 12 months.
The 31-year-old has had a resurgence in form in the second half of the season, and has been rewarded with a contract extension because of his good form and hard work to get himself back to his best. Matic was able to re-establish himself in the squad after there were injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay and this enabled him to obtain more playing time.
At the start of March, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told a news conference: “He will stay here. Yeah, 100%. We have agreed with him so he will stay.”
His leadership and experience has been invaluable during the challenging times with United’s injuries and poor form this season. I am happy for him I hope that he’ll continue to be an important asset for the team in the future.
