SkySports claims that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Frenchman Paul Pogba will remain at the club next season. There has been speculation earlier this summer and even recently that Pogba would leave to return to his former club Juventus, or he would go to Real Madrid.
But the United boss is adamant that the Frenchman isn’t going anywhere and he’ll be at the club next season. Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent revealed to the media earlier this year that there was a real possibility that his client Pogba would leave United. He painted a narrative that the Frenchman wasn’t happy at the club and wanted to leave because United had failed to match the ambitions of his client.
Also relations between United and Raiola had become strained. Raiola went to social media and and stated: Pogba is neither his nor Solskjaer’s “property”after the United boss had previously said: “Paul is our player and not Mino’s.”
But Raiola later recanted his comments, by saying he would “reach out” to the United boss and insisted there is no bad blood between them. I never believed that Pogba was interested in leaving when these comments from his agent were revealed earlier this year. Because I would always see football websites or the newspapers say otherwise.
Pogba himself came out on a few occasions and said that he’s happy being a Manchester United player and he wanted to stay. Solskjaer has also reiterated that his star player was happy at the club and that he was staying.
I would like to see Pogba stay, but the problem is right now that Bruno Fernandes is doing an excellent job presently in central midfield. The midfield quartet or quintet depending on the formation of Fernandes, Fred, McTominay, Pereira, Mata, or James or Matic, Would Pogba disrupt that chemistry that Fernandes has with his teammates?
Let’s see how Solskjaer will reintegrate Pogba back into the squad. I believe Ole will make it work. Obviously one or two people would have to drop to the bench and lose some playing time. Also Pogba has been so inconsistent and has been injured so often and for prolonged states of time that do we really need him now that we have Fernandes? Ole and his staff would have to solve those issues.
Because right now Fernandes owns Pogba’s job in midfield. The Portuguese star has many of the same attributes that Pogba possesses, and if they were to play alongside each other they’ll only be in each other’s way. Their style of play is similar, and their decision-making with the ball could sometimes mimic each other. But all in all I do think that having a fit and inform Paul Pogba can only be beneficial to us.
