Odion Ighalo, Daniel James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira all scored on the night, and United got another clean sheet. The game was played at Linz’s stadium with no fans because of the coronavirus. The closed doors environment certainly seemed strange, but that was never going to be a problem for United.

The Reds started the game positively and came close to scoring on some occasions. But they finally achieve the breakthrough when Ighalo produced and extraordinary goal in the 28th minute. Bruno Fernandes supplied a great pass to the Nigerian, and he juggled the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing an incredible strike.

Then it was James who added a second after the break. Ighalo assisted with the second goal when he passed to James, who then powered home a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Juan Mata grabbed the third when Mata found Fred in midfield and then he returned the pass to Mata, and he finished superbly past keeper Alexander Schlager in the 82nd minute.

The final two goals came in injury-time when subs Greenwood and Pereira added their names to the scoresheet. Tahith Chong put Greenwood down through the left and he smashed a wonderful shot that bounced off both posts before hitting the net. It was Pereira’s turn, and the Brazilian took a powerful drive from 25 yards out, and Schlager somehow allowed the ball to slip through his hands.

United had a fantastic victory in which we not only got a clean sheet, we scored multiple goals and we kept driving forward in pursuit of more goals even into injury-time. I love that hunger and desire that Sir Alex Ferguson always talked about, and that was on total display today against a Linz side that were outclassed by United.
