Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Old Trafford last Sunday was a case of Ole using an effective strategy and tactics that got us the victory.
From the beginning of the game to the end United would sit back deep and look to hit on the counter-attack. A few things that I liked was that the United players would try to win the ball back especially after they lost it in their half. Our players were quick to get back on defense when City was on the attack or counter-attacking against us.
We were compact and well-organized defensively and even in midfield. I also liked that practice of us closing down the City players high up the pitch in their final third, and we also closed them down in the final third of our half also. We kept City honest and we made them play into our strengths.
United is mostly a counter-attacking team because of the type of players we have so we are set-up that way. Part of the reason also why we played on the counter-attack for most of the season is because a lot of our players were injured. So we would try to defend deep and counter-attack and that sometimes led to goals for us that would help us win games.
Now that we have Bruno Fernandes that is creative and can score goals himself has turned our fortunes around. Odion Ighalo has scored goals for us and I believe he’ll continue to do so as the season goes on. He has made a positive impact just like Fernandes so far.
The goals from Martial and McTominay were fantastic goals and both players have grown a lot this season. They are showing more maturity and are looking more consistent. Especially in the case of the French striker who has been inconsistent at many times for Reds and who either looked disinterested or was non-existent in games.
So far he has 16 or 17 goals this term, and I believe he has broken his own goalscoring record for most goals personally for him on one season. I can definitely see him to getting 20 goals and more this term.
Martial has the talent to score 20 to 30 goals a season only if he would apply himself more to his craft and show more determination and focus. Because he all the tools in his skillset to be a great striker one day. I would like to see the Reds win the Europa League and hopefully the FA Cup this season. That would be a wonderful way to end a season of strife and turmoil.
