Carabao Cup Preview: Manchester United v Manchester City

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial sat out the Molineux clash due to illness, while Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay remain unavailable due to injury. The manager will give as much time as possible to Maguire and the others to prove their fitness in advance of Tuesday’s 20:00 GMT kick-off against the Blues at Old Trafford. The match will be shown live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Football, and MUTV. In the US you can watch it on ESPN+ at 3pm ET. The referee will be Mike Dean.

“It is a bit early yet [with Maguire],'” Ole told MUTV.

“We are going to give him as much time as possible. He was hobbling about yesterday but there are still 36 hours to go, so we will just wait with all of them.”

“It is not a time to go out on the pitch and do lots of work anyway. We are going to do meetings and recovery work.”

When asked specifically about Lingard and Martial, he replied: “We hope that everyone is going to be available but we don’t know, because some recover quicker from illness than others. So it is the same answer. We have just got to give them as much time as possible and make a decision on the team in the morning.”

Sergio Romero came in for David De Gea and kept another clean sheet, while Diogo Dalot was introduced as a substitute on Saturday for his first senior involvement since October’s away game at Newcastle United.

Blues boss Pep Guardiola said: “We don’t have much time, but we have two-and-a-half days to train and prepare [for] the game we want to do.”

Aymeric Laporte is on his way back to full-fitness, but this tie will probably come too soon for him, although fellow centre-back Nicolas Otamendi should be available. Leroy Sane remains sidelined.
