According to BBC Sport French club Lyon says that their top striker Moussa Dembele is not for sale.
Dembele has been linked with a host of clubs in Europe including Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. He previously played for Celtic and Fulham. The 23-year-old striker has scored 30 goals in 71 appearances for Lyon since joining from Celtic in 2018.
Lyon came out with a statement about the future of their player.
“Olympique Lyonnais have become aware of some media reports suggesting that Moussa Dembele may be of interest to other clubs during the transfer window,” it said.
“We would like to reaffirm our wish, as we did in the summer of 2019, to keep Moussa Dembele.”
“The club has full confidence in Moussa and is counting on him in particular as we aim to build a successful team for the coming seasons.”
This is a real blow for Manchester United in my opinion because we need a striker. When a reporter recently asked Solskjaer “Will you go out and buy a striker in January?” Ole said we already have a striker in Mason Greenwood.”
But the problem is that he isn’t an established, experienced or proven striker. He has scored some goals for United, but he hasn’t proven himself for a full season as yet where he has scored consistently week in and week out. Usually young players like him are inconsistent and are still learning about the game.
He may be that special talent at this age where may be next season he could do that. Greenwood should be playing in place of Lingard. Why doesn’t Solskjaer play him in the hole just behind Martial and Rashford as part of a front three? Lingard has had personal problems allegedly and his form has been poor this season. It actually stretches back to last season.
We missed out on Haaland and now Dembele. I don’t know what other striker is available that is the right fit for the club and is of a high enough caliber. I heard that United wants to get Sean Longstaff and Emre Can. I would rather see us obtain Emre Can than Lonstaff.
Can is more experienced and is a higher caliber player than Longstaff. I don’t see the greatness in Longstaff that some people in the media see. The hype him up too much. Based on the evidence of his performances in games I just don’t see him as someone that can assist us to a great degree with our defensive midfield issues in the center of the field. But let’s take a wait and see approach and hopefully United will bring in the right player(s) in January.
