Erling Haaland has decided to sign with Borrusia Dortmund. The 19-year-old striker chose to sign with the German Bundesliga club instead of other clubs such as RB Leipzig, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Ole must be disappointed by Haaland’s decision. Ole had flown out to Austria to convince him to come to Old Trafford, but it wasn’t enough. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had also coached the striker when he was coach of Molde in Norway for a year. It has been said in the Norwegian media that Haaland saw Solskjaer as a father figure while he was at Molde. So Ole has to be a bit surprised. We knew it was going be a challenge to compete with all these other clubs for his signature.

So what other strikers can we sign in January? French striker Moussa Dembele comes to mind who plays for Lyon. He already has 10 goals this season and should get 15 or more goals. If he does break the 15 goal mark then it would be the fifth time he would do so in his career in the French Ligue 1. I believe we should pursue him.

He has experience at the highest level in France. The French Ligue 1 is one of the top five leagues in world football. He also has proven he can consistently score many goals in the league. If he came to United he could possibly get more goals. I believe he can get 20 or more a season in the Premier league.

Especially if we can sign one or two very good creative midfielders. The strikers that he would have around him are excellent. Rashford, Greenwood, and Martial would all make a good fit with him. Also French players has almost always have the best success in the Premier league everytime they came from France’s top league. But is Lyon going to sell one of their best players in January? We’ll have to see if United can pull that one off.

Then there’s Josh King from Bournemouth. I don’t see this happening, because Bournemouth will have to sell one of their best players in the middle of the season. He is key to them staying up as they are only a place or two above the relegation zone. So they certainly need his goals. King is a good striker, but he isn’t the high calibre and accomplished kind of player that we need. I would prefer Dembele over him any day.

It’s imperative that Ed Woodward get a top quality striker in January and getting in a good creative midfielder would be welcomed also. Ed Woodward needs act quickly to bring in at least one or two good signings for January. Because if we wait until next summer to sign one or two of the players that are available now, we may miss out on them in the summer of 2020.
