Manchester United ended 2019 on a positive note with a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor. Goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford guaranteed a win against a tough Burnley side.
Anthony Martial tucked the ball past Nick Pope in goal at the 44th minute mark. Marcus Rashford then got the second with a breakaway goal in injury time. United are now up to fifth with only being one point out of the Champions League places.
Solskjaer made four changes to the United side that won 4-1 to Newcastle. Ashley Young and Brandon Williams replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw at full-back. Nemanja Matic got a start for the first time since a defeat to West Ham in September, because of the injured Scott McTominay and a rested Paul Pogba.
Andreas Pereira placed pressure on defender Charlie Taylor, and forced the hin to panic and cede possession of the ball. Then Pereira passed it to Martial who showed good poise and composure to place the ball past goalie Nick Pope.
In the second-half, the second goal came in the fifth minute of injury time. Ashley Young released Daniel James on the break and he passed the ball to Rashford who supplied the finish to seal a vital three points.
Its nice to see United showing some consistency, but can we do this against the much lower ranked sides who we have slipped up against this season? I hope that this brief run of good form can be duplicated in the New Year. If we are to finish in the Champions League places then we need better consistency to get there and maintain our position in the top four.
