Manchester United will play against the Hornets on Sunday at 9 am ET in the US. Our trip to Vicarage Road will have some changes in it because of squad rotation. Ole spoke about why he started rotating the squad and gave an update on Diogo Dalot.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed Diogo Dalot has been stepping up his return to full fitness. The Portuguese defender will appear in an Under-19s friendly against AC Milan at the Lehigh Sports Village on Friday night.
“I feel the squad is ready for it.” Ole told MUTV ahead of the festive spell. “We’re physically ready for it, and mentally, we’re in a good moment as we’re getting some decent results.”
“The fitness of many players, they’re coming back we’re getting more and more competition for places.”
“It’s important and why we’re rotating. We’re getting players back in training and it’s, more or less, a full squad training now. That’s good to see. Who is match fit and who isn’t is a different scenario.”
“Diogo is playing tonight and getting more game time, to get more and more ready,” added Ole.
“Paul [Pogba] is training. He’s back in with the team so we’ll see how long it takes for him to feel ready to be part of the game.”
“It’s a similar squad to what we’ve had the last few weeks.”
New Watford boss Nigel Pearson has received a boost on the fitness front as Adam Masina and Roberto Pereyra should be ready to return after missing last weekend’s defeat to Liverpool.
The Hornets are without Jose Holebas, though, and former Reds Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck, who will miss out on a reunion with their former club.
Sebastian Prodl and Daryl Janmaat are also long-term absentees for the bottom club.
