Manchester United produced a magnificent performance versus our derby rivals Manchester City. Goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial ensured that we attained the 2-1 victory at the Etihad stadium.
United’s attacking display was was vibrant and we always looked dangerous from the start. Our defenders were spot on in their defensive duties. Nicolas Otamendi’s goal was the only blemish in our win. Manchester City’s goalie Ederson produced saves from Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.
The Blues struggled to deal with United’s pacy attack and the counter-attacking tactics of the men in red. Bernardo Silva brought down Rashford in the box in the 21st minute. The penalty kick was given after a check by VAR. Rashford then calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. The England international could of had another goal, but his effort hit the post instead.
After that United was dominant, and Martial added to the lead when in the 29th minute he squeezed his shot past Edersen at his near post, after an assist by Daniel James.
In the second-half, The Red Devils had to defend bravely by blocking and closing down the City players. But we continued to threaten the hosts through our counter-attacks. After 66 minutes, Lingard had his shot saved by Ederson. United continued to be stubborn in defence as City pushed us back deeper in our box.
Unfortunately, the men in blue finally got the goal that they were searching for. In the 85th minute, Otamendi headed past David De Gea from a corner to produce a pulsating finish to the game. Then only seconds later it was De Gea to the rescue after he came up with a sensational one-handed save to deny sub Riyad Mahrez.
Even though the match was very tense in the end, United’s tactics and their performance was wonderful to watch. In the end we richly-deserved this win and no one else could say otherwise.
