The Busby Babe reports that left-back Luke Shaw is going to miss 5 weeks with a hamstring injury. The defender picked up the the injury in the loss to Crystal Palace. Shaw had pulled up without making contact with anyone. The most likely replacement for Shaw will be Ashley Young, who isn’t the best player to replace him, but is better than the other options available. Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo are sub-standard and Diogo Dalot is still recovering from injury.
This is a blow for United, because Ashley Young had a poor season last term. He’s 34 and he could be on the wane in his career. Let’s see how he does, because this is a new season, and so far for the most part nearly everyone has played well.
He’s lost a step or two with his pace and I think that Young is going to be a liability for us. Sometimes his positioning is suspect especially when he’s going forward to join the attack. He doesn’t have the speed to recover in time to get back defensively like Luke Shaw has.
The good thing about this injury is that he won’t be out for 2-4 months which would have been a big problem for us. So he’ll be out for the short term and not the long term.
Shaw will miss games against Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham United and Arsenal including the upcoming international matches for England. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have an update on Shaw’s injury at the press conference on Friday.
