Manchester United lost at home to a Crystal Palace side in their Premier League match after a poor display in the first-half by the Red Devils. An injury-time goal by Patrick Van Aanholt gave the visitors a shocking win at Old Trafford.
Eagles striker Jordan Ayew scored in the 32′ minute following a long goal kick down the middle of United’s defence. Ayew latched on to the loose ball after Victor Lindelof failed to win the header. He ran onto the ball and calmly slotted the it past De Gea. It was Palace’s first chance of the game and United were punished for it.
Marcus Rashford missed a penalty in the 70th minute of the game. It was struck well, but the striker was unfortunate not to score because the ball hit of the inside of left the post and then it ricocheted off the right post. That was one of the turning points of the game.
We had a few other shouts for penalties that should have been given. One of them was when Anthony Martial was brought down in the box by a Palace player, but it wasn’t even reviewed by the referee or VAR. But we didn’t take enough of our chances and we defended poorly at times during the game. So in the end we didn’t deserve to win the match in the end.
Winger, Daniel James scored in the 89th minute with a well-placed curling shot that nestled into the top right-hand corner of the goal. But with three minutes of stoppage time left to go. Van Aanholt scored with a low drive at the near post, but David De Gea made a poor attempt to save the shot. The ball squirmed through the keeper’s hands and into the back of the net.
This was a game that most fans thought would have been three points in the bag. But Palace did a good job of defending well enough and putting all their men behind the ball. Then they took their chances on the other end of the field. We got what we deserved in the end, and we only had ourselves to blame.
