The match is at 11:30 am ET time on Sunday. Anthony Taylor will be the referee for the game. Eric Bailly will be absent through a knee injury that he picked up during the pre-season. He won’t be back until Christmas time. Alexis Sanchez hasn’t played any pre-season games and lacks match fitness after he played at the Copa America in Brazil earlier this summer. He has been training after recovering from an injury, but may not start.
Paul Pogba and Matteo Darmian weren’t available for the last pre-season game against AC Milan. They are in the process of improving their fitness. We should see Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire make their debuts.
Mason Greenwood may be in the starting line-up, but Tim Fosu-Mensah will miss out with an injury.
For Chelsea they have many injured players that won’t feature for this match. Antonio Rudiger, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Reece James will all miss the game with injuries. N’Golo Kante and Willian are also doubtful. Kante has been suffering with a hamstring injury, while Willian has a knee injury.
This is an important match for us because we not only are at home, but we must win after our main rivals Manchester City and Liverpool won their matches. Chelsea is also one of our rivals and they have been a team that has always been really tough to beat. So we need to win convincingly and get the three points.
We can’t afford to lose or draw this game, because we’ll already be three points or two points behind our rivals. United needs to send the message that we mean business and that we’re a real force to be reckoned with this season.
