Manchester United won 4-0 against Leeds Utd yesterday. United won 2-0 earlier in the week against Perth Glory. The team ended their tour of Australia successfully and can now turn their attention to the tour of Singapore. The goals came from Mason Greenwood (7), Rashford (27), P. Jones (51), A. Martial (69 pen).

The friendly was played in front of 55,274 fans at the Optus stadium. Manchester United played an attacking style of football that was also entertaining. The energy and the intensity that the team displayed was a welcome contrast to what United fans saw around the world last season.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started the game with Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Axel Tuanzebe was the only unused substitute. David De Gea was ill, and Lee Grant, Luke Shaw and Romelu Lukaku were all injured.

The Red Devils almost took the lead in the third minute when Victor Lindelof dribbled forward and passed the ball to Rashford, who saw his shot from the right hit the left-hand post.

After this bright start from Solskjaer’s men, they scored soon after, with a great goal that began via a fantastic through-ball from Paul Pogba. Wan-Bissaka latched onto it and played an excellent pass into the six-yard-box for Greenwood to score his first senior goal. The 17-year-old striker is a very talented player that has been lauded as a future star by the boss to score goals this season and he was exciting to watch.

United maintained the early pressure and Pogba was heavily involved in it, bending a free-kick from 25 yards just wide of the post before forcing the Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to save a cracking drive moments later. The Frenchman showed his power and energy in central midfield.

Leeds began to press high up the field as the half went on. Jack Harrison went close to equalising with a left-footed shot that nestled into the side netting and Patrick Bamford then saw a close-range shot wonderfully saved by Romero.

Leeds wasted opportunities in front of goal and was punished in the 27th minute, after Rashford rounded his marker to score from Scott McTominay’s pass from a counter attack.

The Reds’ pace provided problems for their opposition on the break and a third goal almost arrived on 44 minutes, through new signing Daniel James. He had ran up the flank, but saw his low shot strike the post just before the end of the first-half.

Solskjaer made 11 substitutions at the start of the second half the men they replaced showed that same passion to play attacking football. After seeing a shot being tipped over the bar, Andreas Pereira provided an assist from the resulting corner when his in-swinging cross was headed into the Leeds goal by centre-back Jones.

Angel Gomes played in the no.10 position, just behind striker Martial, and the diminutive player showed some glimpses of his talent on the ball, most notably when he was cutting inside from the right and dragged a left-footed shot just wide of the post.

There was a long break as a result of Leeds player Stuart Dallas receiving a sizeable cut to the head, following an accidental collision with Martial that forced him off for immediate treatment.

When the game eventually resumed, United got the 4th goal. The energetic Tahith Chong was fouled by Liam Cooper’s rash challenge and Martial would score from the penalty spot, as he placed the ball into the bottom left corner as the goalkeeper dived in the opposite direction.

The squad is set to fly from Australia to Singapore on Thursday afternoon for the second leg. We’ll play Inter Milan on Saturday. This will be a bigger test for United against what should be a strong Inter Milan side.
