According to Manutd.com, Axel Tuanzebe has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2022, with an option to extend for a further year.

The 21-year-old defender is a graduate of the club’s academy and joined the club at the age of 8. He made his 2017 debut and his first competitive start in the same year. He was the 2015 award winner of the Jim Murphy Young Player of the Year. Tuanzebe grew up in Rochdale and was born in Bunia, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Axel Tuanzebe said: “I have grown up at Manchester United and it has always been a big part of my life and my family’s life. I appreciate the trust that the club has in me and I want to repay that with my performances on the pitch.

“I know I have a lot of hard work and learning ahead of me but the experience I gained throughout last season puts me in good stead for the future ahead. I am determined to give everything and show everyone the player that I can be.

“I can’t wait for the tour to get started and to see what the upcoming season brings.”

I am happy to see that Axel Tuanzebe has decided to continue his career with Manchester United. He is one of the best young defenders that we have at the club. Whenever I saw him play in the past he was usually composed and organized in the backline. His positioning was spot on and he distributed the ball out of the back well too. Tuanzebe also had good temperament.
