It looks like Juan Mata will be staying at Manchester United. The Manchester Evening News reports that he’s close to signing a new contract with the club. His current deal expires at the end of June. The Red Devils has offered a one-year deal, with an option for an additional year.
Mata and his agent has been discussing a new contract for a quite some time and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is very fond of Mata and sees him as a valuable part of the team moving forward.
So far negotiations has been positive and it looks like Mata will sign his new contract soon. The 31-year-old Spaniard is a favourite in the dressing room and with fans.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked by Sky Sports back in May about the offer that Mata received: “Yeah, fantastic person, fantastic player. Of course it’s up to him, he knows I’ve had words with him, he knows how highly I regard him.
I am glad that Mata and his agent is seeing eye to eye with Manchester United in these negotiations so far. I can’t wait to hear the official news that he has signed a new contract that will tie him to the club for another year. He is a personal favourite of mine because of the many accomplishments in his career and the vast experience that he brings to United.
