The Express claims that Manchester United has had an opening offer of £45m rejected from West Ham for centre-back Issa Diop.
Manchester United is trying to improve a backline that conceded 54 goals last season. It was our worst defensive performance in decades. United has reportedly had interests in Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Kalidou Koulibaly.
United has been pursuing Diop for a while and we’ll see how this story develops. Issa Diop is 22, and was born in Toulouse, France. He played for the Toulouse B team from 2014-2015 and in the Toulouse senior squad from 2015-2018. The Frenchman is 6’4″ and he joined the Hammers in 2018. He has made appearances at all youth levels for France from the France U16’s all the U21 levels.
He is a good prospect and United pursuing a player like him seems like good business sense. But the I don’t believe he’s worth that price tag for him. At £45m that is unreasonable and even though he has some good pedigree when you look at his youth, and professional career and the potential because of his age he still isn’t worth that amount.
He isn’t the among the top youth players in his age group in the Premier League. He doesn’t have that kind of talent or is a player of a very high caliber. Its not like he won a few awards for Best Young player of the Year at West Ham or was the PFA Young player of the Year or anything like that. So United should just move on to other transfer targets that are cheaper, but yet still are of a high caliber also.
