Manchester United told Inter Milan that they must spend £80 million to sign Belgian international Romelu Lukaku. Antonio Conte who will be Inter’s new manager soon said that he would love obtain the striker this summer. Conte wants a new centre-forward on his wish list and he wants Lukaku to be his first summer signing. Eden Dzeko is another target for Inter in the summer also.

I would be glad to see Romelu Lukaku leave United because when he joined United two years ago the club paid £75 million, plus £15 million in add-ons for him. So United ended up paying £90 million in total. The big Belgian striker hasn’t re-paid the manager’s and the fans faith in him so far. In 96 appearances for the club, he only has 42 goals to show for it. So his goals output is less than half of the appearances that he has made.

Lukaku has failed to hold up the ball for his fellow strikers or other teammates when the team is attacking or counter-attacking on a consistent basis. He seems uninterested in the game at times and unmotivated to makes diagonal or straight runs into the box. He has a reputation for being lazy at times also. The star striker sometimes goes on long goal droughts. Lukaku hadn’t scored in his last 12 matches last season. The last time he scored was against PSG on Wed. March 6th.

Even when he was at Everton he had long goal droughts for 8 games or more straight before he would score again. He’s just not good enough for Manchester United. Someone with his pace, strength, size, height and skill should be more dominant in the box. As a striker he the lacks aerial presence where he could take advantage of his physical attributes to get on the end of balls to score in the box.

For me he isn’t on the level of a Mauro Icardi or a Paulo Dybala, who both are more consistent than him in their all-around play and in their goalscoring records. So I am happy that United is selling him. I hope Inter pays the money for him. But I don’t know if they can afford to buy him at £80 million. Could they afford to pay his wages too? We’ll see, because so far Inter Milan is the only club that I know off that is willing to sign him so far.
