Manchester United targets Harry Maguire again

Harry Maguire is back on Manchester United's radar as they look at summer signings
Manchester United has rekindled their interests in signing the Leicester City defender.

The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United are interested in Leicester center-back Harry Maguire again as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to improve his defensive options. United are seeking another alternative to Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly who is rated at £90m. His valuation has discouraged the club from pursuing the center-back.

United are also looking at other alternatives like Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. Alderweireld has a £25m release clause and Spurs activated a one-year extension on his deal in December that would take him up to the summer of 2020. He is the cheapest option among the choices of defenders. But United is more interested in signing a younger center-back because he is 30 now.

United needs to sign a younger center-back for sure because when a player gets into his early thirties they start to wane in their productivity. They are also more susceptible to injuries which could range from short to long-term. I also think that they should buy a defender even though he’ll cost more. We should focus on bringing in the best players available at younger ages so we won’t have to replace them within three or fours years.

Longevity is important for the club. The younger the player and the longer he can stay at the club its more value for the substantial amount of money that United paid for him years prior. This shift of signing much younger players is a smart move by United.

I know that Ole has a deadline where he would like to bring players in by July 1 that’s when he will start training camp. United also has an Australasia tour that they will fly out for on July 8. I am eagerly awaiting to see who will be our first signing of the summer.

What center-backs do you think United should sign?
