Its reported by The Express and Guillem Balague that Ole is interested in signing Callum Hudson Odoi from Chelsea. The young striker is a hot prospect that has caught the attention of some clubs. Ole also revealed that United realistically will be looking to bring in less than six players.

The club will not be in the market for the biggest names, but will instead focus on bringing in the best young talented players with quality outside of the top six clubs in the Premier League. They’re just interested in bringing in quality throughout the side. I was surprised to find out from Balague that “Center-backs aren’t a priority, it seems, but I think they will get at least one.”

Center-backs don’t seem to be a priority it seems, but Balague thinks that United will get at least one? As far as I am concerned center-backs should be a priority, because our club has had a long history of defenders in that position being injured each season frequently and unavailable for long periods.

That has been a problem position for us many years when it comes to injuries. I believe that we need at least two quality players in that position. Eric Bailly who got injured again recently, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in particular has been out for long periods in the past with injuries. So we can’t afford not to treat that position with importance.

I am surprised by this article because United needs to buy world-class players or at least close to it. Now if we buy the best of these young star players outside of the top six teams in the Premier league, Will some or a few them turn out to be world class players soon? Because if we’re buying players that are just very talented, but are not of a high calibre then are we really helping United progress as a club?

When you look at Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona they have world class players. Even some of the players that are on the bench of these teams are of a high pedigree or close to it. We need to get top class players right now so that we can compete with the aforementioned teams.

We can buy some of the best young talent in the league, but are they just good or very talented players that can improve the standing of the squad immediately? Or are those players just going to be in the categories of “good or very good” just like many of the ones that we already have? If we spend a lot of money on so called “very good talented” players then I don’t see how we can really compete with our top rivals in the league and Europe consistently.

We have to take a wait and see approach with what Ole does, because United hasn’t started signing any players as yet. Based on the first few players that they sign we’ll know how serious the club is regarding fighting for all the titles in the season.

What’s your opinion on the article? Do you think that we need at least two center-backs? Make your opinions known below in the comments section.
