United has failed to sign a center-back that can lead the backline and someone who can add some stability. Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling have all had some success in that position, but they have been inconsistent at times. However it seems as though Ole is trying to solve that problem.
The Manchester Evening News reports that the club may be searching for a proper center-half. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in signing a central defender but he is happy with the options that he has right now. The article also revealed that Victor Lindelof is one of the top candidates for the club’s player of the year award. Ole also praised Chris Smalling and Phil Jones for their performances over the weekend against Watford.
United definitely needs to add more steel to the center-back position. We may need to buy two center-backs because even though the pairing of Lindelof and Smalling seems to be the best, occasionally they look so unstable and lack confidence at times together.
Phil Jones has missed the last three months through injury and illness. That has caused his form to drop, and Eric Bailly has had injury issues at times so the situation doesn’t look so rosy. Chris Smalling has had many injuries in the past also. The club has had a history of losing defenders especially center-backs to long-term injuries and that is something that Ole and his staff would need extra cover for.
What center-backs would you like to see the club buy?
