Manchester United defeated Watford 2-1 at Old Trafford today. Watford played better than United for most of the first-half. Abdoulaye Doucoure shot wide after two minutes passed in the game. Then David De Gea a few minutes later pushed away Troy Deeney’s header. Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw linked perfectly for United before Martial’s cross was blocked. Later on De Gea saved an effort from Deulofeu.

But it was United who scored first in the 28th minute with their first shot on target after a quick counter-attack. The Red Devils won the ball just outside their area via Shaw, who pushed forward and made an excellent pass that split Watford’s defence to Marcus Rashford as he slipped the ball past Ben Foster. Foster made a great save when a loose ball fell to Martial, and then Rashford circumvented Foster, but he couldn’t find a teammate.

In the second-half Deulofeu attacked swiftly, but his shot was gathered by De Gea who then saved a low drive from Roberto Pereyra. Coach Javi Gracia replaced Daryl Janmaat, and Will Hughes placed his effort just wide. United couldn’t seem to create any real danger to the Hornets and Solskjaer made two changes. Juan Mata and Ander Herrera went off with Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira coming on. Etienne Capoue blasted the ball over the bar, but United got another goal in the 72nd minute. Martial scored by placing the ball into the roof of the net after Foster had his initial shot blocked.

Watford brought on Demarai Gray, with Deulofeu departing and Marcos Rojo replacing Martial. Then in the 90th minute, Watford got a well-worked goal that was richly deserved when Doucoure finished well after a fine pass from Isaac Success.
