Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed the new manager of Manchester United. Espn reports that the Norwegian has agreed to a three year contract. This is great news for United fans, because as caretaker manager he has done a remarkable job in turning around the club’s fortunes. A few months ago when there was talk about Mauricio Pochettino as a candidate for the position I was enthusiastic about the Argentine coach obtaining the job also.

However I believe Ole was the best suited for the job anyway because he was a fantastic servant and player for United. He will always be remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 1999 European Cup final at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. Also don’t forget a host of many winning goals that he scored in the league and other cup competitions.

The Ex-Norwegian striker is a legend at Old Trafford, and has also contributed as a reserves coach at United. Ole achieved success early in his coaching career when he won the Lancashire Senior Cup in 2007-08 season by defeating the Liverpool reserves 2-1. He also captured the Manchester Senior Cup trophy on May 10, 2010 against Bolton Wanderers winning 1-0 at the Reebok stadium.

Solskjaer has won the Premier League Reserve and the Premier Reserve League North titles in 2009-10 season. In his native Norway he won the Tippeligaen league in 2011 and 2012, which is the top league in the country. Ole also won the Norwegian football Cup in 2013. I love the fact that he knows the club inside out and knows what is required of him to be successful at such a huge club.

For me Ole was the best man for the job. On the flip side Mauricio Pochettino for all of his time that he has coached in England’s and Spain’s top leagues he hasn’t won anything. So even though people in the media and everyone saying that he’s a brilliant coach and would be a better long term choice, Solskjaer was always going to get the edge because he won titles and he achieved that a young age. I hope that he’ll be at the club for many many years to come.

Do you think the club made the right choice?
